Can xanax cause weight loss?

Changes in eating habits and weight are considered common side effects of xanax/alprazolam, so  weight changes are a common side effect of the alprazolam.

No one knows exactly how Xanax changes appetite and eating behavior in people who take it. Likewise, no one can predict what an individual person’s appetite response to Alprazolam will be. Xanax is habit-forming, and regular use can lead to physical dependency in a relatively short period of time. Being aware of changes to your appetite, and sticking with a healthy diet and exercise routine, will help minimize any weight changes associated with taking Alprazolam.

Xanax and Weight loss

Benzodiazepines act quickly, usually taking effect within a few minutes to an hour after an oral dose. Nausea, dizziness, vomiting, stomach upset and over-sedation are possible side effects that might lead to weight loss. However, benzodiazepines are not typically recommended for long-term use to manage anxiety because of the high risk for dependence and addiction. Significant weight loss is unlikely with short-term benzodiazepine treatment.
